We attribute his becoming an architect in part to this and David Macaulay's other works.

My sons fell in love with cross section books and [b:The New Way Things Work|109533|The New Way Things Work|David Macaulay|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348848540s/109533.jpg|18326198] when they were about 7 and 9. They'd read and enjoyed [b:Cathedral: The Story of Its Construction|769471|Cathedral The Story of Its Construction|David Macaulay|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348571925s/769471.jpg|755531] as well. So when I saw [b:Building the Book Cathedral|456623|Building the Book Cathedral|David Macaulay|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347561571s/456623.jpg|755531] in the library, I had to bring it home.

It's been a hit and I enjoyed it, more for nostalgia than for the merits of the revisions that David Macaulay introduces in hindsight.
