Dragon's Egg - Sarah L. Thomson Sweet middle-grade fantasy about Mella, who has the gift of being a dragon-keeper, and Roger, the squire to a knight who has vowed to defend the kingdom from dragons. While the "cover blurb" makes the book seem like another story of a girl with inner strength and an unexpected destiny, Roger is a strong enough presence for the story to appeal to boys. My 3rd grader loved the story, which means that it is appropriate for 3rd - 5th graders, depending on reading level and interests.
