While my first love was SF, I read widely in YA, urban fantasy, police procedurals, middle-grade, and non-fiction.
A kick-ass mercenary heroine, a patched up spaceship with a motley crew, and ravening aliens. Fortune's Pawn made a good beach read during a weekend "Down the Shore" as they say here in Jersey.
Parts of the story were a bit thin, especially the hints of larger political intrigue, but Devi was entertaining. While I can see how it sets up subsequent books in the series, I did not like the ending.
